Poona offers so much for our visitors and particularly to the bird enthusiasts with many walking trails to see the wide range of birds of the area. Of note are the birds of prey, kingfishers, parrots, water birds and migratory birds with the latter very much a feature in Poona given it is part of the world recognised Ramsar Wetlands.
To aid, both locals and our visitors in identification of the wide variety of birds in the area, John Hand and John Price have co-authored an electronic book that is free and can be downloaded and read in eReaders or as a PDF. The work was complemented by the wonderful photography of locals Judy Sumner and Ellen Watherston. The book contains more than 100 individual species in high resolution images. The Foreword is written by Fraser Coast Regional Council Mayor, Mr George Seymour.
Note, for image quality, photographs have been retained in high resolution which results in a large download file in the order of 130mb.
The book may be downloaded from this site but is not to be distributed by other means or modified in any form without the prior consent of the authors.
The aim is to revise the book over time as more and/or better images become available. If you note any errors or omissions, or wish to otherwise contact the authors, please email.
